An Introduction

Welcome to the first issue of OK/Cancel! Let me first point you to our about page above. If you’re visiting on launch day, you’re probably know Tom or myself. Tom is travelling at the moment so he will check in later with a post of his own.

I’ve tried to do a comic book or comic strip project several times over the past decade and I rarely get beyond a few issues. This project has been the most successful both in the collaboration and the execution. We have lots of ideas but of course, welcome new ones. I decided a few months ago that I was going to do a comic strip, and one on a subject I was intimately familiar with but I it quickly dawned on me that I don’t actually know much of anything. Nevertheless, interface design and usability are areas I thought I at least could tackle. Bad interfaces was something we all laughed at already so what better subject to write about? The industry gives us new inspiration every day!

Fast forward to the summer when I told Tom the idea. I had intended on the project being a solo venture (which essentially meant I would never get around to it) until Tom one day messaged me and asked, “So when are we starting this comic thing?”

“We?” I thought then after a brief pause, I typed, “whenever you’re ready.” So here we are. As you will no doubt notice, the site is far from complete but we will slowly add more to it. We will be publishing a new strip every Friday so there’s incentive to come back.

Today also marks my official last day at Trilogy. Starting next week, I will be attending graduate school for the next year. After that, who knows?

As they used to say in the 90s “Please excuse the dust. This site is under construction.” I’d show you an animated construction worker but I seem to have thrown that icon out with my web-safe palette.

OK/Cancel is a comic strip collaboration co-written and co-illustrated by Kevin Cheng and Tom Chi. Our subject matter focuses on interfaces, good and bad and the people behind the industry of building interfaces - usability specialists, interaction designers, human-computer interaction (HCI) experts, industrial designers, etc. (Who Links Here) ?
